The infiniverse is a shorthand term for the "Infinite Universes" (sometimes called "omniverse", "multiverse", etc.).

The universes are named according to the Starguard Universe Index (SUI), formerly the UNTIL Universe Index (as used by Starguard of Earth-1). Starguard practice is to give a serial index number to any reasonably reliably reported universe. The numbers are not recycled even if it subsequently turns out that the report was false, or that the alleged new universe is the same as one already indexed, so the actual number of known universes is fewer than the numbers suggest.

(Because these numbers are assigned by Starguard sequentially in order of indexing, which approximates order of discovery, it's probably best to ask staff (and specifically Anastrophe) if you want to invent a new universe number in the right range. That said, the Rift Crisis of spring 2057 covered roughly numbers 960 to 1160. As of July 2058, the highest index number is 1182. Most years, about 15 to 20 new universes are added to the catalogue.)
